Instagram Engagement Rate Calculator
Find out how engaged your followers are. Enter your followers and average likes and comments per post to get your engagement rate in one click.
How the engagement rate is calculated
Engagement rate = (average likes + average comments) ÷ followers × 100
Example: 5,000 followers, 250 likes and 12 comments per post → (250 + 12) ÷ 5,000 × 100 = 5.24%.
What is a good engagement rate on Instagram?
It depends on account size. Smaller accounts usually get a higher rate. These are rough guide ranges, not official Instagram numbers:
| Followers | Low | Average | Good |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 10K | below 2% | 2% – 4% | above 4% |
| 10K – 100K | below 1.5% | 1.5% – 3% | above 3% |
| 100K – 1M | below 1% | 1% – 2% | above 2% |
| Over 1M | below 0.7% | 0.7% – 1.5% | above 1.5% |
How to improve your engagement
- Post Reels regularly. Short videos reach more people than photos.
- Use a clear hook in the first 2 seconds and a question in the caption to get comments.
- Reply to comments in the first hour after posting.
- Post when your audience is online (check Instagram Insights).
- Give new posts a starting push with likes and views so more people see them.
